An Anthology Celebrating Black Queer Existence

Call For Submissions

We are seeking original artistic works written by Queer Men of African descent (including but not limited to: Male Identifying, Black Gay, Same Gender Loving, Bisexual, Pansexual, Two-Spirit, Transgender or Non-Binary individuals), with an emphasis on new works & new voices from across the globe.

 

All submissions selected will appear in the upcoming anthology, Passages: An Anthology Celebrating Black Queer Existence, curated by Monte J. Wolfe & Jair, The Literary Masturbator.

 

This collection seeks to address & examine a variety of topics such as: lineage/legacy, coming out, living authentically, intersectionality, identity, patriarchy, misogyny, mental/emotional health, aging, sex, intimacy & eroticism, silence, secrecy, shame, & vulnerability. 

 

We are accepting literary & visual arts works in the forms of poetry, prose, essay, short fiction, freehand drawing, painting, photography & graphic art. We are also seeking spoken word, musical, theatrical and dance performances in video format.

Monte J. Wolfe is an actor, writer, director, producer, musician and activist. He is also an experienced theatre professional with an extensive background in theatre management, arts administration, and production. He has worked professionally in the DC metropolitan area since 1999. He is also a trained actor & singer with various stage, film & television appearances to his credit. He is a graduate of the Howard University Theatre Arts Department, where he earned a BFA in Theatre Arts Administration in 1999. 

 

He is the Founder, Artistic, and Managing Director of Brave Soul Collective (BSC), an arts, education, and outreach organization with a focus on HIV/AIDS, and issues affecting the lives of LGBTQ people, through the performing and healing arts. Through his work with BSC Monte has served as a producer, director, and playwright for a long list of theatrical productions, community events since 2006. Jair , The Literary Masturbator is a Poet, Spoken Word Artist,  Writer, Arts Curator, and Activist.

 

He is the author of, “Touch: Poems & Other Writings of Love, Erotica, & Sensuality” and, “Collage: An Assemblage Of Divergent & Juxtaposed Poetry”. Q: Do you need to be a previously published writer/performer to submit work for consideration?

A: No. Submissions are being accepted from all persons, whether new or established.

We strongly welcome & encourage the submission of new works and writings from new voices. 

 

Q: Who is the intended target audience for submissions?

A: Submissions are open to Black Queer Men of African descent including but not limited to: Black Trans Men,

Non-Binary Indentifying persons, Bisexual, Pansexual, Same Gender Loving, Gay Black men

within the United States as well as from abroad

With an emphasis on new works & new voices

 

Q: What subjects/themes are being accepted for submission of work?

A: Submissions can cover a range of topics including, but not limited to:

Lineage, Coming Out, Aging, Living Authentically,

Intersectionality, Identity, Mental/Emotional Health, Intimacy, Visibility,

Silence, Secrecy, Shame, Vulnerability, Sexuality & Eroticism

 

Q: What artistic mediums are being considered for submission of work?

A: We are accepting literary works in the form of poetry, prose, essay short fiction,

For video we are seeking musical performances, spoken word performances,

monologues, one act plays, dance pieces. 

Visual arts submissions in the forms of drawing, photography, graphic art,

and video will also be accepted for consideration. 

 

Q: Is there compensation?

A: Yes. All contributors will receive an honorarium, as well as two copies of the publication.
